Ventura

ALBUM

Ventura (2004)

Ventura showcases Venezuelan-Canadian singer-songwriter Eliana Cuevas in a vibrant and introspective collection of songs that blend Latin American rhythms with jazz, Brazilian, and world music influences. Her expressive voice and thoughtful songwriting are supported by an accomplished ensemble of Toronto musicians, creating a sound that is both intimate and rhythmically rich.

The album features mostly original compositions by Cuevas, exploring themes of forgiveness, identity, desire, and emotional resilience through poetic lyrics and inventive arrangements. Two collaborations with composer and producer Gordon Sheard bring additional colours to the album’s palette, including the Brazilian-inspired “La Samba Me Llama.”

Produced by Gordon Sheard and recorded in Toronto, Ventura reveals Cuevas’s distinctive artistic voice—combining lyrical depth, subtle grooves, and a sense of musical exploration that bridges cultures and traditions with elegance and sincerity.
